As safety manager, the role is responsible for developing, updating, and maintaining safety, food safety, and environmental compliance programs. A safety manager maintains reports and verifies compliance, as well as supervises employees, contractors and visitors. By spending a significant amount of time in the plant, a safety manager ensures all programs and procedures are adequate and being followed. Based on safety programs and policies, the safety manager looks to not only sustain, but also improve current behaviors in the facility to continuously ensure safety. Should an incident occur, the safety manager is responsible for leading and participating in all investigations to identify root cause. Self-assessments and internal audits help the safety manager develop and track corrective actions for any findings.
