Supply Planner

Optimizing the grain supply chain.

A crucial role in any grain milling facility, the supply planner ensures the efficient flow of materials, from raw grain procurement to finished product delivery. This role oversees inventory and supply planning responsibilities for assigned plants and/or co-packers with a goal of minimizing costs and maximizing efficiency. The supply planner is a critical link between purchasing, production and sales. From demand forecasting and production planning to data analysis and reporting, this position always strives for continuous improvement of key performance indicators, such as forecast accuracy and inventory turn, as well as removing supply chain bottlenecks and streamlining purchasing.

Career Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing inventory and supply planning activities for assigned plants and/or co-packers, which may also include inventory stock transfer/replenishment responsibilities
  • Utilize internal systems to proactively identify and communicate key drivers and proposed solutions to service and inventory issues
  • Assess current inventory levels and forecasts and appropriate business decisions that minimize costs and achieve corporate working capital and service level objectives
  • Develop detailed understanding of manufacturing constraints and capabilities of the manufacturing locations being planned, publishing and leading the review of material as needed with plant and business teams
  • Liaise with advanced levels of the organization to drive consensus on risks and opportunities and lead conversations around developing action plans
  • Coordination of special projects, new product launch evaluation, asset utilization studies, supply chain cost optimization opportunities and others
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers and suppliers to prioritize and deliver products and services
  • Develop detailed understanding of manufacturing constraints and capabilities of the manufacturing locations being planned, providing regular feedback and information to drive strategic discussions and decisions
  • Work and communicate cross-functionally with production facility, the corporate supply chain team, as well as Business Development, Sales, Marketing, Demand Planning and Customer Service
  • Personally demonstrate a commitment to food and human safety

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Supply Chain, Finance or related field
  • 2-4 years’ experience in a production planning, production scheduling or materials management position
  • SAP experience
  • Strong database and spreadsheet skills, including development of analytical models
  • Robust analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of integrated planning software
